Research:
Dr. Burwell's program of research focuses on family interaction and health behaviors in regard to cancers effecting women. During and since her post-doctoral fellowship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, her research has specifically focused on the health behaviors and family relationships of young women with breast cancer. Recently she has expanded her work to include the prevention of breast and cervical cancer, particularly among rural African American women. Teaching:
