A minor in Child and Family Development provides students with knowledge of key concepts underlying individual and family development across the life cycle. Students wishing to minor in Child and Family Development must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time the minor is declared and must complete the following minor coursework with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better in each course:
- CHFD 2100 Development in the Family
- CHFD 2200 or CHFD 2950 Introduction to Lifespan or Child Development
- CHFD 3930 Development of Interpersonal Relationships
- CHFD 4870 Human Sexuality Across the Lifespan
- CHFD elective from choices listed on the University of Georgia's Bulletin
Courses taken to satisfy Core Areas A through E and classes taken to satisfy major requirements do not count toward the minor. Core Area F courses do count toward minor requirements. All prerequisites must be met to enroll in a minor course.
To Declare the Minor:
Obtain and complete a Declaration of Minor Form in Student Services (210 Dawson Hall). Have the completed form checked and signed by Student Services staff. Once approved, take the completed form to the school/college you are enrolled in.
To Complete the Minor: After completing all minor requirements, contact Student Services (210 Dawson Hall) to complete the Minor Completion Form. Grades must be earned and recorded on your UGA record before completing this form.
Advising:
Because there is little flexibility in the CFD minor requirements, there is no need to meet with a CFD advisor prior to registering. CFD minors should consult with their major advisor (not the CFD advisor) to select a minor elective that is compatible with their career goals. Minors can automatically enroll in CHFD courses listed as POM on OASIS once the minor declaration form has been processed by their College office and they have the required course pre-requisites. Minors need permission from the course instructor to register for CHFD courses listed as POD.
