Workforce housing, Latino issues, indoor air quality, energy conservation and literacy, community and housing development, housing finance.

Outreach:
Affordable housing education programs, Natural Gas education for consumers, Radon Gas education, water quality and energy conservation.

Teaching:
Housing and Environment courses for county extension agents.

Interests:
Dr. Jorge H. Atiles is the Associate Dean for Outreach and Extension in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia. In addition, he serves as the Family and Consumer Sciences State Program Leader for Cooperative Extension and also provides leadership in Latino outreach for UGA Extension. Dr. Atiles' areas of extension work include cross cultural seminars in Latin America for UGA Extension Agents, educational programs on Radon Gas, Natural Gas, Energy, and Water quality. Aside from his research record in housing issues, some of Dr. Atiles’ most noted work has included securing external funding from state and federal agencies, developing networks for extension and conducting applied research on the needs of Georgia’s burgeoning Latino population. A recipient of the 2005 Walter Barnard Hill Award presented by UGA's Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, Dr. Atiles' work has been recognized with national awards from the US Environmental Protection Agency and several professional organizations. Prior to his tenure at UGA, Dr. Atiles worked as an architect and a planner with the National Housing Bank of the Dominican Republic, as a Housing Manager of federal housing programs in Athens-Clarke County and as adjunct faculty in the College of Architecture at the UNPHU, Dominican Republic.
