Save Energy

The typical U.S. family spends about $1,900 a year on home utility bills, much of which is wasted. Listed below are 10 no-cost and low-cost ways you can save energy and money.
- Air dry dishes instead of using the dishwasher drying cycle
- Turn off your computer and monitor when not in use
- Wash full loads of dishes and clothes
- Unplug the phone charger when it is not in use
- In the hot summer close shades, drapes and blinds during the day.
- Plug home electronics into power strips then turn the power strip off when equipment is not in use. Electronics continue to draw when plugged in.
- Upgrade 15 of the incandescent light bulbs in your home to ENERGY STAR compact fluorescent lights (CFL). You can save about $50 per year.
- Change your air filters regularly
- Seal air leaks around windows and doors
- Cool to 78 degrees during the hot months.
