Residential Use of Organophosphate Pesticides
This study assesses the magnitude, duration, and frequency of exposure to organophosphates in residential settings. Objectives of this study were to determine residential use patterns of chlorpyrifos, diazinon and malathion, examine data of these patterns, and generate preliminary data for a larger study.
A questionnaire developed after surveying local retailers for products with diazinon or malathion as the active ingredient was distributed to 2,399 residents in greater Athens, Georgia. Data showed demographic, user status, location, frequency and rationale for use. Exposure measurements of the chemicals in dust and indoor air samples will be used together with questionnaire results to determine comparisons.
