This is the second in a series of exhibits concentrating in color. The display features a number of items in different shades of green. Green, a color mostly associated with growth, fertility and new life is abundant in nature and fashion. Green is also associated with many other aspects of society. In The United States, green is the color of money and therefore often associated with notions of wealth and capitalism. Green also reminds us of Emerald City, Leprechauns, Christmas, Saint Patrick’s Day and Kermit, the frog. Green is often the color of choice for military uniforms, scrubs and religious outfits. Green is also associated with jealousy and envy, the green eye monster, the Grinch and several Spider-Man villains. The exhibit includes a number of items ranging from a Guatemalan Huipil blouse to a 1890s dress bodice and several 1970s dresses. Military garments from World War I and World War II are also included along with accessories such as handbags and shoes.
