Welcome to the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors!
The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors is located in Dawson and Barrow Halls on south campus, (clickhere to see maps of the UGA campus) of the University of Georgia,and are a part of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. The department office is located at 321 Dawson Hall.
The faculty members in the department have teaching and research expertise in manyareas. We offer a diverse undergraduate program which covers all aspectsof fashion merchandising and residential interior design, including kitchen and bath design. The Global Soft Goods undergradaute emphasis offers our students the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in global sourcing, logistics, and production. Undergraduate and Graduate students may also enroll in classes that engage them in the creation and installation of historic dress and textile exhibits at the university and surrounding Athens community. Study abroad programs offered in the college and department provide learning experiences in China, London, and Tokyo.
Graduate programs are offered at the Master of Science and Ph.D. levels. The Master of Science program includes focus areas in merchandising/international trade, textile science, and historic/cultural aspects of dress. The Ph.D. in Textile Sciences emphasizes textile chemical processes, textile analyis and textile products and standards. The Ph.D. emphasis in International Merchandising provides opportunities for concentrated study in international apparel and texties retailing, international production and trade, global sourcing, international business practices, and e-commerce in a global setting.
Our vision is to have internationally recognized graduate and undergraduate programs in Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors, to provide opportunities for the professional and personal development of our students resulting in leaders who enhance the quality of life, and to contribute significantly to the ever-changing body of knowledge in our disciplines.
The mission of our department is to:

- Create undergraduate curricula that are educationally sound, and that build on the liberal arts basis of the University of Georgia core curriculum.
- Build on the core curriculum, educate undergraduate students in their professional area, and provide them with the base of knowledge that will allow them well-qualified entry into the work force.
- Educate graduate students to seek and assimilate research knowledge in their professional area, and to conduct original, meaningful research.
- Conduct research that has an impact in both basic and applied areas of knowledge; ensure that the results of this research are made known in an effective way to academia, and to business and industry.
- Interact with business and industry to assist them in solving problems; provide for the transfer of technology and research results to outside users.
