Make a Donation

Thank you for your interest in making a donation to UGA’s Historic Clothing and Textile Collection (HCTC). Our ability to accept new donations is limited by storage space. However, we are always interested in finding ways to enhance our collection through the addition of select items that are aligned with our mission and meet the needs of students and researchers.

Donation Protocol

Before we can consider adding any new items to our permanent collection, they must be approved for in-person review and will be accepted as a temporary loan. Please email us at with information about your proposed donation to receive confirmation if we can accept your item(s) for in-person review based on our current needs and available resources. If possible, please include photographs of your item(s) in your email.

If your proposed donation is accepted for in-person review and temporary loan, it can be brought to UGA’s campus. All proposed additions to the permanent collection are reviewed by Dr. Monica Sklar and the HCTC staff. Items will be evaluated on a rolling deadline based on volume of requests. You will receive a letter notifying you of a decision after the review.

Even if your donation is accepted for in-person review and temporary loan, there is no guarantee that it can be added to our permanent collection. However, if we’re unable to keep your submitted items, you will be able to retrieve your items within thirty days of the end of the evaluation period. Further information regarding this process will be provided to you via email if your proposed donation is accepted for the review process.

Other Needs

Preserving historic clothing and textiles requires proper archival materials and many hours of work. These resources are very costly, but are a necessary investment to ensure that future generations will be able to appreciate and learn from our valuable collection of historic objects. Please consider making a monetary donation to the HCTC to support our collection care efforts and help us preserve our objects for many years to come by clicking here.

We truly appreciate your interest in supporting our Historic Costume and Textile Collection. Please email if you have any questions or concerns.
